Why You Need to Do Keyword Research

Deciding on a niche can be made a whole lot easier if you do your keyword research. According to Wikipedia, “Keyword research is a practice used by search engine optimization professionals to find and research actual search terms people enter into the search engines when conducting a search.”

In other words, you need a domain name which has a keyword in it so that you have more chances of being found by the search engines. The easiest way to do your keyword research is to pick a topic and niche it down until you have the right combination. As an example, let’s look at “weight loss” as your topic.

Go to www.googleeasysearch.com which will take you to Google Adwords Keyword Tool. Type in “weight loss” where it says enter one keyword or phrase, type in the characters below and then press “Get keyword ideas.” You will then see a lot of keywords listed below.

Look under “Local Search Volume” and the ideal number of searches you want should be between 30,000 – 70,000 hits per month. The higher the search, the lower the competition. I have looked up “weight loss” and I have found a keyword “weight loss recipes” which has been clicked on 49,500 times so is well inside the range.
All you need to do now is to come up with a title which has “weight loss recipes” in it and you have an excellent chance of being found.

If you want to advertise using many of the keywords you have found, then just click “add” and they will be compiled into a text or CSV format. Sign up to AdWords to create your AdWords account and then paste all the keywords you have chosen into your new campaign.

So you now have a new domain to work with and you have the keywords needed to start your advertising.

Where Do I Find Shopping Carts for My Site?

For most people this is a very daunting exercise and knowing where to start can be a major task.

If you are selling a product or products on your site, you need to set up a shopping cart so that it is all handled automatically for you. A shopping cart will handle the transaction, collect the payment, deliver the product if it’s an electronic product and collect the name and email address of your customer.

There are quite a few different options when it comes to choosing a shopping cart, and the following are just a sample.

PayPal – if you already have a PayPal account then this is probably one of the easiest systems to use. The other major benefit is that this account is free except for the normal PayPal fees and charges.

1ShoppingCart – this is very well known not only for helping you set up a shopping cart, but  also has a great autoresponder which gives you the ability to follow up with emails automatically. This system is not free, but it offers a few different options to choose from.

Zen Cart Software – you don’t need a university degree to download and set up this shopping cart! Once again this is free so take advantage of it if you are short on funds.

3dcart – once again this system is easy to implement with plans to suit stores of any size, a multitude of features available with all plans, and excellent customer support that goes beyond the software use.

volusion – is easy to use and has a web design that can adapt to mobile devices. Volusion is one of the best shopping cart solutions because it has an easy-to-use interface, great security and features that can grow with your business.

As with all these shopping carts it does take patience and time to learn how to set them up properly, but once completed they can be set up to work automatically for you.

If you’re selling an electronic product such as an ebook, the only time you’ll know about a sale is when you receive an email telling you! No more packing or posting goods out.

Where to Find Affiliate Products

A lot of people, especially newbies, don’t know where to look for affiliate products to promote, so I am going to list a few sites to look at and review their procedures and ease of use.

  • ClickBank:  Clickbank is probably one of the easiest sites to find products to promote. Go to www.clickbank.com home page and either sign up straight away or click on the tab Marketplace which is top right. On the left-hand side you’ll see a list of categories which you can click on to open up, or go to the search bar under “Find Products” and type in your niche. I’m going to click on the tabs to the left and I’ll choose E-Business & E-Marketing for this example. I’ve scrolled down and clicked on “Paid Surveys” and chosen the top listing. When you choose a product click on “Promote” and you will be asked for your Account Nickname so this is why you need to have an opened account.

Review:  Of all the affiliate sites offering products to promote, this is one of my favorites. It’s so easy to sign                 up, find a product then given a code to add to your website. Many of the sites also add affiliate tools. There is               no waiting to be approved.

  • CJ Affiliate:  was formerly known as Commission Junction and is different in its setup. Before you can look at products you must sign up first by going to www.cj.com  Once completed you’ll be taken to the “home” page and click on “Advertisers” and a list of all will appear. You can also search using a keyword to find a product. Once you have a product selected you will have to state what you will be doing to promote it and give details such as the URL of your website. You will then have to wait for a couple of days for approval.

Review:  Although they have great products listed, I find the website difficult to navigate and only through                 clicking on different tabs did I eventually find the products I was looking for. Then I had to wait 3 days for the             approval to come through.

  • JVZoo:  Like CJ Affiliate, you need to wait for approval before you can promote products. You can also check out their products before signing up by clicking on “Marketplace”.  This will show you the many categories to choose from. Go to www.jvzoo.com to sign up. Once logged in click on the “Affiliates” tab to find a product to suit your niche.

Review:  Very simple site to navigate with a large array of products in all categories available. Many come with their own Sales Funnel set up. As in the previous site you do have to send a request but you generally have an answer back within 24 hours.

  • Shareasale:  You can take a quick tour of this site before signing up at www.shareasale.com  Once again they have plenty of products to choose from by clicking on the “Merchants” tab and choose the “Category” to find a suitable product.

Review:  As with CJ Affiliate I had to give details of how I was going to promote their products and the website I’d be using. I had to wait 3 days for approval.

That’s just a sample of the many affiliate sites available. Check them out yourself and decide whether or not to use them. You can also go to Google and type in eg. “paid surveys affiliate” and you will see quite a number of sites listed.

Without a Struggle There Can Be No Progress

“Without a struggle there can be no progress” are words written in 1818 by Frederick Douglass.

Abolitionist leader Frederick Douglass was born into slavery in Talbot County, Maryland. He became one of the most famous intellectuals of his time, advising presidents and lecturing to thousands on a range of causes, including women’s rights and Irish home rule. Among Douglass’ writings are several autobiographies eloquently describing his experiences in slavery and his life after the Civil War. bio.

Those simple words encapsulate a life full of struggle but he had the will to not let his circumstances sway him from what he wanted to achieve.

He proved that anything you want in your life is there for the taking, but it’s up to you whether or not you reach out and grab it.

His words inspire me to keep on struggling through the challenges which are constantly being thrown at me in my personal and business life, and the biggest message of all is to not think of ourselves as being failures if our project doesn’t work out. His message is to keep getting back up and facing the challenges head on.

If Frederick Douglass can make a success in his life after being born into slavery, then it should be a “walk in the park” for us.

My goal is to keep focusing on what I want and despite the struggle I’ll keep forging ahead!

Blog Traffic for Beginners

An excerpt from the sales page for Blog Traffic for Beginners by Yaro Starak

Why Do So Many Blogs Struggle To Attract Even 100 Visitors, Yet A Few Elite Bloggers Enjoy Almost All The Attention?

Let me reveal how you can become one of the
top bloggers in your field…

Hello, my name is Yaro; I founded the blog Entrepreneurs-Journey.com in 2005.

Since I began blogging I have made over a million dollars thanks to advertising, affiliate marketing and selling my own training products all from my blog.

That sounds pretty impressive, right?

Well, here’s the thing…

It didn’t happen overnight.

When I first started I was just like you – in a situation where you have no readers coming to your blog.

It’s a challenging time for a new blogger because you publish content in an “echo chamber” where almost no one reads what you write.

Perhaps your family read your blog, maybe some friends – but you definitely do not have enough of an audience to actuallymake money with your blog.

Blogs Can Only Make Money If They Have Traffic

This might be stating the obvious, but it has to be said…

“A blog is only FINANCIALLY VIABLE if you attract a large enough audience to derive a profit. If no one reads your blog, no one buys your products.”

Your First 1,000 Readers

With a solid following of 1,000 readers per day you can have a successful — and PROFITABLE — blog.

However, the fact is, at the beginning when you first start your blog, nobody knows it exists.

This is when things are hardest, and I know what it feels like — I’ve started many websites over the years and I know how lonely it is to begin with.

Do You Know How To “Market” Your Blog?

When I first started my blog, I already had experience running Internet businesses. As I found out, a blog is a little bit different.

I was writing regular content to my website and I knew that I had to go out there and do some marketing to bring attention to my blog, but I wasn’t really sure exactly which are the best techniques to use.

I did some research and quickly discovered that the challenge is not in finding techniques to grow your blog and build traffic – it’s figuring out which ones actually work!

I found myself overloaded with too much information on how to drive traffic to my blog – from pay per click advertising, banner advertising, article marketing, search engine marketing, video marketing, social media marketing and on and on and on…

What Are The Most Important Elements When It Comes To Traffic?

One thing I’m good at is taking action and I knew that was the best way to solve my too much information problem.

Since I had little money at the time I decided to focus only on free methods to grow my blog traffic.

I knew Google could be the answer if I learned how to optimize my blog for search engines, because organic traffic from search engines is free traffic.

After spending quite a bit of time testing different techniques to get traffic from Google, including many that didn’t work, and some that only worked temporarily, I eventually learned what I believe are the most important elements.

This turned out to be the first major breakthrough in my blog traffic…

Does Your Niche Have too Much Competition?

Choosing a niche is easy enough to do but finding one which does not have a lot of competition is getting harder and harder. You need to “stand out from the crowd” in your chosen niche.

You may have a particular hobby or interest that you’d like to promote and build a business from, but where do you start? You want to choose a topic that is already popular and you want to find a niche within it.

To illustrate this point, let’s pick a topic such as “cosmetics”. If you search for that topic in Google you will find over 179 million listings! This is your competition! So it’s time to start searching to niche it down.

Once you start searching keywords you will find many different variations for using cosmetics. I added “cosmetics” into the Google Adword Keyword Planner and started to look for a niche which had less competition. I’ve come up with “makeup tips” which has just over 27,000 searches a month, globally, so as you can see I’ve really been able to niche it down to a more manageable niche. I looked for a niche which had more than 25,000 but less than 70,000 searches a month.

If you can find a niche which has between 25,000 and 70,000 listings, you have a far greater chance of being found in the search engines. Really promote your niche with lots of articles and advertising to get your brand out there and be noticed.

Once you have that perfect niche you can really stand out from the crowd by getting as much traffic to your site as you can. If you have something that people really want, you can set yourself up as being an expert in the field giving them the answers they’re looking for.

When people search for information such as “makeup tips”, they expect to find a site which has expert advice and ideas, so your site needs to be found. Promote your site everywhere you can, online and offline and create a list of very satisfied customers who will keep coming back to your site for more.

Don’t waste your time picking a niche with too much competition because your site will never be found by the search engines.

Do You Work from Home?

Working from home is great isn’t it? You don’t have to get up early and spend a good part of your day stuck in traffic! You don’t have someone constantly leaning over your shoulder watching what you’re doing! You don’t spend all day watching the clock so that you can once again join the throngs of commuters on their way home!

Sounds great doesn’t it? Well it is great but you have to be very well disciplined. If you work at home and you have children, it can be really hard to ignore them while you’re trying to write an article or an ebook. You have to be able to separate your work and leisure time so that neither misses out.

If your children are very young, you could work while they’re having a nap and then plan to work in the evening when they’re in bed. Toddlers want a lot of attention! In this case it may be easier to plan your working hours in the evening allowing you time to spend with your children during the day.

Many of us work from home and don’t have issues with children being around, but that does not mean you won’t be distracted. Pick a room in your home that you can call your “office” and treat it as such. You don’t have to work 9 to 5 but if you have set yourself tasks for the day, make sure you complete them. It can be very easy to work all sorts of hours when you work from home, but don’t fall into the trap and allow yourself time for relaxation.

If you’re like me, I spend many hours during the week and the weekends working on my business, but I take time out for myself whenever I feel like it. I love what I do and I don’t consider it work anyway, but I know that I do need to have a break. Taking a break also allows your mind to wander and you may just come up with the bright idea you were looking for!

Working from home gives me the freedom to work at my own pace and if need be I just have to pack up my laptop and take it with me wherever I go. If I want to work at the beach or in a favorite spot I can do it easily.

Why Do We Procrastinate?

This is a very pertinent question for all of us. I have found that the majority of us procrastinate one way or another.
The reason for this topic is because I’d attended a women’s network meeting and this question was raised by the presenter. It really got me thinking about how I procrastinate over simple things and it always works out that the task I put off takes twice as long to complete!

There are things you can do to avoid procrastination and here’s just a few ideas.

  • Set a task for the day and stick with it until you have completely finished it. I’m mainly talking about big projects which we put off and tell ourselves we’ll get back to it later. The problem is later never comes!
  • Focus on the result you want and concentrate on those areas to complete your task
  • Make preparations to complete your project beforehand. Don’t leave it to the last minute to organize yourself. Tell everyone a day or two before that you will not answer your phones or emails until the task is completed
  • There is never enough time to complete absolutely everything, so don’t beat yourself up it they aren’t all done
  • Work out the key points of your project and handle one topic at a time. If you try to do too much at once you’ll give up and once again it won’t be completed
  • Do the most difficult task first so that the other components don’t seem so bad. Stay at it until it is finished!

The key to overcoming procrastination is knowing that you are procrastinating and then doing something about it. Once you’ve mastered procrastination you’ll be amazed at how quickly your tasks are completed.
